Flat removals in Ilford
Flats here split cleanly in two: converted houses, where the constraint is physical, and newer blocks, where it is procedural. Neither is harder — they just fail differently.
The constraint is physical
- A shared street door that is often the tightest opening on the route
- Stairs only, with a turn that was never designed to be shared
- Nobody to ask permission from — which sounds easier and is not, because the constraint is physical
- Parking on a permit street, needing a dispensation with notice
- Original floors and banisters that mark, so protection goes down first
The constraint is procedural
- A booked service lift, with a window you do not control
- A reserved loading bay that has to be arranged with the concierge
- Protection the building requires us to fit before we start
- Insurance details frequently wanted before a crew is admitted
- A lift big enough for the furniture, usually — which is the one genuine advantage
Both are entirely manageable. What is not manageable is finding out which one you are in on the morning of the move.
Flat removals — common questions
Third floor, no lift?
Ordinary in the conversions here. It changes crew size and time on site, both of which come out of the visit — which is why we ask the floor before quoting.
Will the sofa come down?
Sometimes not, and far better known at the visit. It comes apart, goes out through a window with a trained crew, or stays. All three work.
Our Barking block wants the lift booked.
Normal in the riverside developments. We speak to the concierge or agent, book the lift and bay for a window, fit whatever protection is required, and build the load order around it.
Insurance details in advance?
Send the building's requirements as early as you can — several will not admit a crew without them.
One room out of a shared flat or HMO?
Usually better as a man-and-van job. Same wrapping standard, smaller vehicle, priced by the job.
